Real cases

1. PCB/POP-free and environmental protection (France 2004-2012)

Casi reali

Scenario

Utilities with nuclear, thermal and hydropower power stations with a total of 1,093 transformers at generation, transmission and distribution poles.

Technical specifications of transformers:

  • Maximum power [MVA]: 760
  • Maximum voltage [kV]: 400
  • Oil mass [kg]: 75,000 each
  • PCB max[mg/kg]: 5,000
  • PCB target[mg/kg]: < 20(after 90 days)

Sea Marconi Solution

Solution: CDP Process® dehalogenation treatment for removal of PCB + Chedcos depolarisation treatment for restoration of physical-chemical properties in both off-load and on-load mode

PCB/POP-free and environmental protection

2. PCB/POP-free and environmental protection (France 2008)

Scenario

Technical specifications of transformers:

  • Type of transformer: step-up transformer
  • Manufacturer: Alsthom
  • Year: 1974
  • Power [MVA]: 760
  • Voltage [kV]: 400
  • Oil mass [kg]: 55,000

Sea Marconi Solution

Solution: CDP Process® dehalogenation treatment for removal of PCB + Chedcos depolarisation treatment to restore physical and chemical properties in both off-load and on-load mode.

  Before treatment After treatment
TAN [mg KOH/g] 0.029 < 0,010d>
Discharge voltage [KV] 58.7 75
PCB [mg/kg] 57.2 9.6
PCB/POP-free and environmental protection

3. PCB/POP-free and environmental protection (Cyprus 1997)

Scenario

Cyprus energy authority with a total of 520 electrical machines containing insulating fluids contaminated by PCB

Technical specifications of transformers:

  • Maximum power [KVA]: 10-1,000
  • Mass of contaminated oil [kg]: 94,000
  • PCB max [mg/kg]: 15,000
  • PCB target [mg/kg]: < 10pan>

Sea Marconi Solution

Solution: CDP Process® dehalogenation treatment.

The Sea Marconi treatments allowed the Cyprus energy authority to save about USD 2 million compared with the alternative solution (purchase of new oil, replacement of contaminated oil and incineration of the latter)

CDP Process dehalogenation

4. PCB + C1-corrosive sulfur with DBDS (Sweden 2012)

Scenario

Primary aluminium production company with 8 rectifier transformers (Sweden).

Technical specifications of transformers:

  • Manufacturer: Brown Boveri
  • Year: 1930
  • Power [MVA]: 19
  • Voltage [kV]: 13
  • Oil mass [kg]: 15,000
  • Oil type: blended mineral

Solution

Selective depolarisation (Chedcos) treatment for removal of DBDS and dehalogenation ( CDP Process) treatment for removal of PCBs in on-load mode (transformer energised and under load throughout entire treatment)

The treatment was performed with a guarantee of DBDS < 10 mg/>g, PCB < 2 mg/>g and the restoration of other parameters within the ranges suggested by IEC 60422 ed. 4, 2013

  Before treatment After treatment
PCB [mg/kg] 29 0.37
DBDS [mg/kg] 18 < 5d>
IFT [mN/m] 24 42
CCD Test corrosive NON-corrosive
TAN [mg KOH/g] 0.34 0.01
DF 0.230 0.002
Transformers subject to Sea Marconi dehalogenation and depolarisation
