Sea Marconi's CDP Process

sea marconi

In the presence of machines in service with insulating oils contaminated by PCBs, Sea Marconi has developed and patented the CDP Process®, an integrated solution that uses:

  • MDU units,
  • dehalogenation/detoxification reagents (S/CDP®)
  • operational procedures

capable of reclassifying fluids and machines as "NO PCBs" and at the same time making it possible to restore optimal conditions in line with IEC 60422 Ed. 4-2012, Art. 12.4.4; CENELEC PR 50503 - 2010, Art. 8.4.2.3; CIGRE 413 - 2010, Art. 10.1.4.

Sea Marconi has been a pioneer in this field, because the first version of the CDP Process® for the decontamination of transformers and dehalogenation/detoxification of PCBs/POPs in transformer insulating oils had been developed as early as 1982.

The CDP Process® avoids critical operating problems of changing oil, which would still be contaminated in the residual oil impregnated in paperboards, eliminating the costs and complicated administrative procedures for collection, transportation and disposal of PCB waste at authorised operators.

The CDP Process® has unique characteristics, guarantees PCB concentrations within the limits set by local laws or in-house specifications: PCB < 50; < 25; < 10; <2 mg/>g, with a guarantee of 90 days. The intervention takes place on-site, in continuous closed-loop, without emptying the transformer even partially, with the possibility of intervention under load (On-Load).
The CDP Process® operates safely, at low temperatures (80-100 °C) and no risk of explosion and/or fire.

The CDP Process® is classified as the best available technique ( BAT ) for PCB decontamination of transformers in service and those at end of life (Italian Ministry of the Environment, Min. Decree 29/01/2007 - O.J. No. 133 of 07/06/2007, Art. D.2.2.2.3 and Art. E.3).

International references have allowed Sea Marconi to win several tenders issued by international organisations for developing countries.

  1. The CDP Process® enhances functional resources in service without disposal of PCBs;
  2. The CDP Process® is the best solution in terms of CO2 equivalent (5 kg of CO2 saved per kg of oil with PCBs not incinerated)
  3. The CDP Process® meets the requirements of the European directives on proximity, self-sufficiency and functional recovery.
