Test Laboratory

The Sea Marconi analysis laboratory, located in a wing of the headquarters in Turin, is one of the best equipped and most innovative technical fluid test facilities in the world. Every year the laboratory carries out over 60,000 measurements and analyses on insulating oils, resulting in over 10,000 diagnoses aimed at preventing transformer failures. The ISO 17025 certified Sea Marconi laboratory is capable of running approximately 150 tests on different matrices, over 100 of which are dedicated to mineral oils, which are the most commonly used insulating fluids for electrical equipment throughout the world.

But it's not just the volume of tests that distinguishes the Sea Marconi laboratory, in fact, in March 2009, following a strict evaluation process, our laboratory was accredited by Accredia, the national laboratory accreditation body. This means that Sea Marconi is among the very few companies (both at Italian, and international level) that is licensed to perform accredited tests (analysis) on the main parameters involved in the life cycle of insulating oils. This analytical excellence, combined with the constant search for new solutions, led Sea Marconi to achieve extraordinary results, such as the discovery of DBDS as the factor responsible for generating corrosive sulphur in 2005 and, more recently, the development of an innovative analytical technique for determining total corrosive sulphur: the SM-TCS (Sea Marconi total Corrosive Sulphur) kit.

Laboratory analysis is not limited to performing complex analytical tests using state-of-the-art measurement instruments, it also means developing rare and highly specialised skills, which, in the case of Sea Marconi, play a leading role in the international standardisation bodies governing the sector (IEC, CIGRE, CENELEC, etc.)
